INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE 1994 Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Kirsten Dunst, Stephen Rea, Antonio Banderas, Christian Slater, Virginia McCollam, John McConnell, It hadn't even been a year since a plantation owner named Louis had lost his wife, and now he had lost his will to live. A vampire named Lestat takes a liking to Louis and offers him the chance to become a creature of the night: a vampire. Louis accepts, and Lestat drains Louis' mortal blood and then replaces it with his own turning Louis into a vampire. Louis must learn from Lestat the ways of the vampire. As many Anne Rice fans - when I first heard that Tom Cruise was going to play Lestat - I nearly lost my cookies. I thought that the then young and not well known actor Brad Pitt would do a good job, but was also concerned with Antonio Banderas at his age playing Armand (who is 16 when turned). I think this is the only move that Kirsten Dunst did that was great acting for her - and she was only 12! Playing the child vampire, she captured the emotions of claudia as she aged to an inner woman, but stayed forever the child. Brad Pitt was great as the angst known as Louie, and Antonio did a pretty good job as well (looking very hot I must say). Now Tom Cruise - I must admit I was surprised. He did capture the quirkiness, almost sadistic side of Lestat - and forgot that it was him playing the part half way through the movie. As with most adaptations, this movie missed a lot of important parts of the book - and took creative precedence with others. But still not as badly butchered as Queen of the Damned. A note - the role played by Christian Slater was supposed to be played by River Pheonix, but with his too soon death, Christian stepped up to play the role. I must say this movie has some of the most amazing costumes I have seen yet in a vampire movie as well, only matched by Bram Stokers Dracula.

BLADE 1998 Wesley Snipes, Kris Kristofferson, Stephen Dorff, Traci Lords, Udo Keir, N'Bushe Wright The first of 3 movies starring the Vampire turned Vampire Hunter Blade. When Blade's mother was bitten by a vampire during pregnancy, she did not know that she gave her son a special gift while dying: All the good vampire attributes in combination with the best human skills. Blade was found by Whistler, who in stead of killing the young boy, took him in, and raised him to be the ultimate vampire killer. Blade grew up to be a vampire hunter for revenge on his mother's death. The vampires, who managed to infiltrate nearly every major organization headed by Frost, need Blade's very special blood to summon La Magra, the blood god, in order to reign over the humans. I loved the concept of Blade, for I thought it was time a cool, sexy and strong african american vampire made it too screen. (sorry Blacula and Eddie Murphy in Vampire in Brooklyn don't count). I still think this is the best one out of the trio. And again a personal favourite vampire actor of mine shows up in an important role - Udo Keir. Lots of blood (most of the blood budget must have been used in the beginning of the movie at the club, where the water sprinklers were set off - but were filled with the vampires drink of choice. Wesley Snipes is way cool (did I say that?) in his ass kickings and attitude - and I love to see a vampire with tattoos.

BLADE II 2002 Wesley Snipes, Kris Kristofferson, Ron Perlman, Leonor Varela, Norman Reedus, Thomas Kretschmann, Luke Goss A rare mutation has occurred within the vampire community. The Reaper. A vampire so consumed with an insatiable bloodlust that they prey on vampires as well as humans, transforming victims who are unlucky enough to survive into Reapers themselves. Now their quickly expanding population threatens the existence of vampires, and soon there won't be enough humans in the world to satisfy their bloodlust. Blade, Whistler (Yes, he's back) and an armory expert named Scud are curiously summoned by the Shadow Council. The council reluctantly admits that they are in a dire situation and they require Blade's assistance. Blade then tenuously enters into an alliance with The Bloodpack, an elite team of vampires trained in all modes of combat to defeat the Reaper threat. Blade's team and the Bloodpack are the only line of defense which can prevent the Reaper population from wiping out the vampire and human populations. Great special effects - with the new 'breed' of Vampires. And who thought Luke Goss - from the pop band bros could actually act? Interesting plot, Snipes is sexy yet again, but liked the first one better. Also stars Ron Pearlman from the TV show Beauty and the Beast fame.

BLADE III (TRINITY - 2004) Wesley Snipes, Kris Kristofferson, Jessica Biel, Ryan Reynolds, Parker Posey, Triple H, Dominic Purcell Blade, now a wanted man by the FBI, must join forces with the Nightstalkers to face his most challenging enemy yet: Dracula Ryan Reynolds looks buff and gives this movie a bit of comedic relief. You may also recognize Dominic Purcell (Dracula) - from the popular TV series Prison Break. Not a bad movie in all.
